The Winner: Christine McHaines
with We Will Rock You
Congratulations Christine. The chief judge commented " [this story] is a well-balanced insight into denial through tragedy; an interweaving of past and present (memories) is well achieved in a short piece. The essence of coming to terms emphasises trauma. The outcome is positive and emerges from the well-meaning characters, the parents’ worries at last given hope for the future by their daughter’s surprising admission. This writer has good insight into what makes characters tick; and can relate a story to effect."

Second Place: Sarah Evans
with Orphan Christmas
Congratulations Sarah. The chief judge commented "This promotes a bitter-sweet quality emphasised through the main character’s behaviour. Use of dialogue is effective and underscores the blasé view of [the character's] concepts."
